Churchill Manitoba the town

We arrived in Churchill around 1:00 PM, about six hours late. Not to worry, we couldn't check into our Bed & Breakfast until noon so this delay was welcome.
This is the historic Train Station in Churchill.

In the Museum there were animals too. Stuffed ones.

If this had been a real Polar Bear den I would be dead now.

There's the chamber of commerce. This town rakes in money during the eight week Polar Bear season.
The Tundra Buggy we went on holds 40 people. At $400 each the TB grosses $16,000 a day. Not bad. So if they run at full capacity every day for eight weeks that's $960,000 per TB and there's a fleet of these things.

There's one. Big buggers.

Here's main street in downtown Churchill. The blue building on the right is the grocery store.

Here's another street in Churchill. You can see the steeple on the Catholic Church.

Old snow machine once owned by Todd Palin. Allegedly.

These are some of the Spirit Way wolves. There are 49 of them spread out in Churchill, Winnipeg & Thompson, all stops on the train.

With a GPS you can locate them all. I have a GPS but never much for geocaching. I just like to know where I am.

Here's the Spirit Way website:

I got this close to a stuffed bear.
These are Arctic Foxes. These will go extinct as the larger Red Fox moves North as the climate warms. It's already starting to happen.

The Beach at Churchill:

Here I am at the beach. Hudson's Bay. Surf's up dude!
Too bad Bears can't read signs. This beach is where the earliest ice forms on this part of Hudson's Bay. The Churchill river empties into the Hudson just West of here and fresh water freezes first and is driven ashore here by the wind. A Polar Bear's diet is 98% seals so they don't eat much when not on the ice. They go six months without eating much so they're plenty hungry around this time of year. A male adult can weigh 1,500 pounds and run 30 miles per hour.  So it's risky visiting the beach this time of year. Our visit was brief.

We climbed onto the deck of the Enterprise for some photos.

Sunset in Churchill the evening we left. The only bummer was there were no Northern Lights this trip.
But everything Else was excellent. We stayed in a Bed & Breakfast in Churchill. The Bears Den. I would highly recommend it.
