The City Of Winnipeg

Shit howdy oh well we made it to Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. Our train, "The Canadian" had been running four hours late at one point, came into Winnipeg right on time. We are staying at the Fort Garry Hotel for two nights before the next "Hudson's Bay" train to Churchill.
Fort Garry is among the classy old school hotels built during the railroad construction. You put out a notice outside your door when you want your coffee or tea delivered and in the morning you open the door and bang, there it is. You can see the sky bridge to the modern wing in the left side of the picture above.

Here's the front entrance to the Ft. Garry.

Nutty Club in Winnipeg. I came back for more pics on our way back through the "Peg" next week.
Bridge over the Red River in Winnipeg.

A school of some sort. We're in the French Quarter.
That's where English is the afterthought, eh?

Old Church ruins.

A view of Winnipeg from the Red River.
Jesus was there.
 So was Gandhi.
I had a conversation with a dinner acquaintance and I said 30 years ago I used to come to Canada a lot and used to marvel about how the USA was so much more advanced than our northern neighbors. Highways, traffic lights, even advertising billboards all seemed so quaint up there. Now I think Canada is so much more civilized and we are the barbarians.
Earls is a chain in Canada. There's one in Denver. I ate at this one in Winnipeg.

Old school trolley.
This is Union Station in Winnipeg. Inside there is a small railroad museum.

Here's a side view. You can see the green dome.

That is one sweet ride my friend.

This is cool, a car with train wheels. Probably a rough ride.
Here's an old fire truck.
Well I said it was a small museum. There were place settings from all the great train lines and lots of strange 19th & 20th century equipment.
Like this. Well, that's it for Winnipeg, on to Churchill!
